In the 1970's, a group of activity directors in Pima County joined forces to meet, share ideas, work on special programming and be a resource for those working in the field of aging and in long term care facilities.
Early in 1981, activity directors from the Phoenix area met to share ideas and support each other. It was there that the need was realized for a state organization to better serve those who work in nursing homes, adult day care centers, retirement communities and other health-related fields that serve the elderly.
